Death of Actor David McCallum at 90 Years

Variety magazine reported that actor David McCallum, who became one of the most famous television stars in the 1960s when he played the role of Russian spy Illya Kuryakin in the series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", died of natural causes at the age of 90. McCallum gained a new generation of fans through his role in the popular series "NCIS." The Scottish-born actor, son of musician parents, had a long acting career spanning seven decades, beginning from his studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in the 1950s. He started his career with supporting roles in several British films, including "A Night to Remember" in 1958, where he portrayed a wireless operator aboard the Titanic. He caught the attention of American audiences with a small but significant role as one of the prisoners of war planning a mass escape from a German camp during World War II in the iconic film "The Great Escape" in 1963. McCallum was nominated for two Emmy Awards for his role in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." MGM, the production company of the series, stated that the late actor received more fan mail than any other star in the company's rich history of celebrities.
