Social media has circulated a picture of the child Jouri, a five-year-old from the city of Tartus on the Syrian coast, who suffered brutal torture from her parents. The Facebook page Kherbet Al-Maeza noted that Jouri A., aged 5, nearly died at the hands of her parents due to the torture (including biting) until her uncle intervened at the last moment to save her. It was mentioned that the family has a twin boy and girl, and due to the repeated torture of Jouri, her grandmother had taken her from them a long time ago to raise her. However, her family took her back under the pretext of wanting to enroll her in kindergarten, only to subsequently torture her.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior issued a statement regarding the incident, stating: "A person named Muhammad A. reported to the Western Police Department in Tartus province that his daughter’s husband, Alaa A., and his daughter Manar A. assaulted their granddaughter, 5-year-old Jouri, severely, and she was taken to Al-Basel Hospital in Tartus. A patrol immediately went to the hospital and found the child had bruises on her face and various parts of her body. Through further investigation, the child's parents were arrested at their home in the Raml neighborhood of Tartus, and during interrogation, they confessed to repeatedly abusing and beating their daughter due to what they considered inappropriate behavior and in the name of her upbringing, as she had grown up in her grandparents' home over the past years."
