South African Foreign Minister Comments on Court Decision

The South African government announced its welcome for the provisional measures imposed by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel in the case filed against Tel Aviv in The Hague. Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor stated that the ruling is a significant victory for the rule of law and an important turning point in the quest for justice for the Palestinian people. Minister Pandor emphasized that the ICJ orders cannot succeed without a ceasefire, and we must call on Israel to adhere to international law. The court ordered Israel to take measures to prevent and punish direct incitement to genocide in its war in the Gaza Strip. Pandor spoke on the steps of the court in The Hague, stating, "How can humanitarian aid and water be provided without a ceasefire? If you read the ruling, it implies that a ceasefire must happen."
