Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani stated that Tehran believes an agreement can be reached on the Dorra field issue in an environment of cooperation and constructive interaction, respecting the interests of the concerned parties, according to the Mehr news agency.
He explained last night, regarding the joint statement issued by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait following the Kuwaiti Emir's visit to Riyadh: "As has been announced several times, the Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to work within the framework of the outcomes of previous negotiations with Kuwait regarding the exploitation of the shared hydrocarbon resources in the Dorra field and maritime boundary delimitation to continue bilateral negotiations with Kuwait, as reaffirmed in the last round of negotiations in March in Tehran."
He emphasized the "principle of good neighborliness and the importance of enhancing relations with neighbors in the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran." He added: "Iran believes that an agreement on this issue can be reached in an atmosphere of cooperation and constructive interaction while respecting the interests and benefits of both countries."
Kanani stated: "The launching of unilateral claims in various statements and media does not provide a suitable atmosphere for managing the issue and advancing it on the basis of mutual benefits and interests." He reiterated that Iran is ready to continue technical negotiations in a friendly atmosphere aiming to reach a mutually satisfactory solution.
