Jordan's Foreign Minister: We Will Not Sign Energy and Water Exchange Agreement with Israel

The Jordanian government announced that it will not sign an energy and water exchange agreement with Israel. Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stated in remarks to Al Jazeera on Thursday that "Jordan is doing everything it believes will help support the Palestinian people, and we are leveraging our relationships to call for an end to the war and to warn against the occupation driving the region towards destruction." Safadi added that "the actions of the occupation are war crimes and cannot be seen as self-defense," noting that "if any state were to do what the occupation has done, it would face sanctions." He pointed out that "the occupation is dragging the entire region towards hell, and the world must confront the reality that the actions of the entity have destroyed what had taken decades to build in terms of a peaceful environment."

Safadi also indicated that "the West Bank is ablaze, and we are witnessing settler terrorism, while the northern front with Lebanon is escalating." He emphasized that "the occupation bears the consequences of its actions in Gaza, producing an environment of violence and rejection," affirming that "if the international community wishes to talk about the aftermath of the war, it must stop what is happening now, and international organizations need to take a clear stance on the situation in the sector." He added, "We are working on delivering additional aid, including incubators for children."
