South Korean security authorities announced that the parcel that arrived at a home in Chungcheongnam-do from Taiwan, which was said to contain an unknown gas, does not contain anything abnormal. According to the Cheonan Fire Department, they received a report about the parcel arriving at a home in the northwest of Cheonan city at around 1 PM yesterday. The parcel was the size of an A4 sheet, placed in a plastic bag, and sent from Taiwan. News reports indicated that the presence of an unknown gas in the parcel was confirmed based on an X-ray scan conducted by an explosives disposal team from the military that arrived with the police at the home. However, the police stated that no gases were found in the parcel after conducting an inspection. A police official said, "We seized the parcel in question along with the military and fire department, but we did not find any explosives or gas. We will open the parcel in a safe location for a thorough examination." More than 30 cases of receiving suspicious parcels were reported over the 21st and 22nd of this month in the cities of Cheonan, Seocheon, Dangjin, Geumsan, and Asan in Chungcheongnam-do, central South Korea. The Postal Service Agency requests citizens and residents to report to the police if they receive parcels wrapped in plastic bags, double-wrapped with other materials, or parcels that were not ordered from abroad, without opening them.
