Organizers announced last night that the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament will raise its total prize money to $19 million, making it the highest among the ATP Masters 1000 events that include competitions for both men and women. This marks an increase of $1.4 million compared to last year's prizes, with the new increase primarily focusing on singles competitions from the qualifying rounds through to the second round.
Steve Christian, the tournament's operations manager, stated, "Every year we evaluate all aspects related to our tournament to provide the best possible experience for players and fans. This year we take pride in offering record prize money, and we are very focused on compensating all players participating in the tournament."
The tournament will also change its match schedule, deciding to hold all quarterfinal matches (eight matches) on the same day, March 14. Last month, players chose Indian Wells as the best tournament of the year for the ninth consecutive time, a feat never achieved by any tournament before. Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz and Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina won the tournament titles last year.
