Spanish Police Discover Cocaine Hidden in Frozen Tuna

The Spanish police reported today, Tuesday, that they seized 7.5 tons of cocaine coming from South America and hidden inside frozen tuna in the port of Vigo, located in the northwest of the country. This shipment was intended for distribution across Europe. They added that this is the largest drug seizure by quantity in the history of Galicia, an Atlantic region known for its rugged coast, which is the longest in Spain and has been used for drug smuggling for decades.

In another operation carried out by the police, they found 3.5 tons of cocaine hidden in shipping containers at the port of Valencia in eastern Spain.

In total, 20 individuals belonging to two Balkan-origin criminal organizations were arrested, which the police described as a "major blow" to one of the strongest drug distribution networks in Europe. They noted that the drug trafficking network had established an import company for fish and seafood on an international scale, as well as investments in real estate.

During months of surveillance, officers determined that the company was concealing its involvement in drug trafficking by sending a massive quantity of containers by sea from various origin countries, with the Iberian Peninsula being the constant destination.
