Brazilian Driver Gil de Ferran Dies of Heart Attack at 56

The Brazilian Automobile Federation announced last night that French-born Brazilian driver Gil de Ferran, a former winner of the Indianapolis 500, passed away at the age of 56 after suffering a heart attack. De Ferran was working as a director in one of the departments at the McLaren team competing in the Formula 1 World Championship. The Brazilian Automobile Federation stated that he suffered a heart attack while at a private car club in Opa-locka, Florida, and that he "was rushed to a local hospital but did not survive." Giovanni Guerra, president of the Brazilian Automobile Federation, said in a statement, "On my behalf and on behalf of all members of the Brazilian Automobile Federation, we pray that our brother may rest in peace and that God grants patience to his family, friends, and millions of fans around the world."
