The Most Violent Earthquake in Slovakia in 80 Years

Christian Chichai, head of the Earthquake Department at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, reported an earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale in the country, marking the strongest earthquake in 80 years. The epicenter was near the city of Prešov, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake caused damage to a Roman Catholic church in the village of Pakostov, where cracks appeared in the structure. There is no information about any other damages. The earthquake, which occurred in eastern Slovakia, was felt by people in northeastern Hungary, southeastern Poland, and western Ukraine.
