Two Killed in Attack on Red Cross Convoy in Khartoum

The Sudanese army announced today, Sunday, that several representatives of the Red Cross were injured after their convoy came under gunfire while evacuating civilians, including foreigners, from St. Mary's Church in the capital, Khartoum. In a statement, the army mentioned that "the Red Cross convoy was fired upon after violating an agreement with the army by approaching its defensive positions accompanied by an armed vehicle belonging to the rebels," referring to the Rapid Support Forces. The Sudanese army expressed "regret for this incident, which occurred due to the representatives of the organization not adhering to the agreed coordination points." In a separate statement, the Rapid Support Forces accused the army of carrying out the attack. They added that Red Cross staff were killed in the incident, but did not provide further details. A regional spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed that an incident involving their convoy occurred but stated that he could not provide further details.
