The Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council in Lebanon, Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, after meeting with the Iraqi religious authority, Mr. Ali Al-Sistani, in Najaf Ashraf, pointed out that "we rely heavily on the role of the religious authority, especially in Iraq where it played a major role in liberating the country from terrorism." Al-Khatib mentioned that "regarding Lebanon, Mr. Al-Sistani wished for the Lebanese people to be delivered from their crises and prayed to God for Lebanon to achieve deliverance and salvation. For our part, we wished him long life and health so he can continue his significant role in saving Iraq and protecting it from terrorism, as well as in achieving Islamic unity." He revealed that "we informed the religious authority about the situation in Lebanon and the role the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council is playing for the unity and solidarity of the Lebanese people, protection of the country, and affirmation of the role of the resistance, as well as providing assistance to those in need, which was appreciated by the religious authority."
