Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the necessity for "sports to be separate from politics, and for its goal to be to bring people together." During the opening of the "Future Games" held in Kazan, Putin stated, "I have confirmed several times and want to say once again, sports should be outside any politics; on the contrary, it should bring people closer together. We have many participants in the Future Games from over 100 countries." Putin pointed out that the "Future Games" taking place in the Russian city of Kazan will bring together athletes from 104 countries and different continents.
