Chinese electronics company Xiaomi launched its new AI-enhanced smartphone, the Xiaomi 14, in global markets today, along with other wearable products. In a statement, the company revealed that the new Xiaomi 14 Ultra smartphone features four cameras, marking an expansion in its partnership with the German camera manufacturer Leica. The simpler model, Xiaomi 14, comes equipped with three cameras.
The modern smartphones integrate AI models into various applications, such as a tool that converts spoken language into written text in real-time during conferences, or another application that allows users to describe an image for AI to locate it within the phone's photo gallery.
Technology and telecommunications companies are unveiling new products and features ahead of the annual Mobile World Congress set to kick off tomorrow in Barcelona, hoping that the buzz surrounding AI will enhance business prospects. However, many experts warn that generative AI may raise legal or ethical concerns.
Last year, Xiaomi ranked third worldwide in smartphone market share, capturing 12.5% of global shipments. Apple held the top position with a share of 20.1%, followed by Samsung with a market share of 19.4%, according to data from IDC. The company also unveiled new wearable products today, including smartwatches that Xiaomi claims are suitable for sports activities and health monitoring.
