Norwegian striker Erling Haaland continued his scoring streak with two goals in Manchester City's 5-0 victory over Copenhagen in the third round of Group G in the UEFA Champions League. Haaland scored in the 7th and 32nd minutes, raising his tally to 19 goals in 11 matches across all competitions for City since his summer transfer. He also increased his total in the prestigious tournament to 28 goals in 22 matches, averaging 1.27 goals per game, according to Opta statistics.
Haaland's double came after his hat-trick against Manchester United (6-3) last Sunday in the Premier League, marking his third consecutive home match with multiple goals. The third goal for City was an own goal by Georgian defender Davit Khocholava in the 39th minute. Algerian international Riyad Mahrez added the fourth from a penalty in the 55th minute, before Argentine Julian Alvarez capped off the scoring with a fifth goal in the 76th minute.
This victory marks Manchester City's third consecutive win in Group G, solidifying their top position with nine points, and they need just one point to secure qualification to the knockout stage of the tournament in pursuit of their first title, having lost the final in 2021 to fellow English side Chelsea. City leads Borussia Dortmund by three points, who trounced their hosts Sevilla 4-1, while both Copenhagen and Sevilla remain at the bottom with one point each.
