A Critical Week for the Government... and a Meeting on Wednesday

Sources have linked President Najib Mikati's assignment to represent Lebanon at the United Nations General Assembly with President Michel Aoun's preparation to go to New York and the revival of the stalled governmental file after several weeks. There is discussion about the possibility of forming a government before the end of the month, raising questions about whether these developments are interconnected or merely coincidental. The sources emphasized the importance of signing the demarcation file and starting the extraction of oil and gas, as the country stands on the brink of collapse with a severely deteriorating economic situation, according to "Anbaa Electronica."

Regarding the government situation, sources close to Mikati described the upcoming week as decisive, anticipating that President Aoun will meet on Wednesday due to his busy agenda, which includes participating in a gathering at Dar Al-Fatwa tomorrow and the parliamentary session early next week. According to these sources, Mikati plans to conduct a series of quick communications with most political forces before visiting the Baabda Palace, indicating that the governmental formation may only involve replacing four ministers: Finance Minister Yusuf Khalil with Minister Yassine Jaber, Economy Minister Amin Salam, Displaced Minister Issam Sharafeddine, and a Christian minister affiliated with the Free Patriotic Movement.

In terms of the vote of confidence, sources from the designated president say that confidence is nearly assured, relying on the consensus among major parliamentary forces on the need for a government to implement the necessary measures for the upcoming phase to gradually emerge from the tunnel of collapse. If all these predictions hold true, the upcoming week will undoubtedly bring many developments that will lead to a decisive outcome, whether negative or positive, especially since the time available internationally no longer allows for the same previous considerations amid the ongoing complications on international files from Ukraine to the nuclear file, which could potentially exacerbate the Lebanese situation if local stakeholders do not navigate the remaining period effectively.
