The endocrinologist and pediatrician, Dr. Daria Khaykina, revealed the amount of candy that children of various ages can consume daily without harming their health. In an interview with the newspaper "Izvestia," the doctor stated: "It is difficult to prevent children from having sweets, especially during holidays. However, there is a daily sugar consumption guideline, regardless of the foods containing it. Moreover, determining the amount of candy depends on the child's health, nutrition, physical activity, and doctor's recommendations."
According to her, "children aged 2-3 years are advised to consume no more than 13 grams of sugar per day, while children aged 4-8 years should have no more than 14 grams. Children aged 9-13 years can actually consume 20-25 grams of sugar daily, which is about two to three teaspoons, and for ages 14-18, the maximum sugar intake can be increased to 25-30 grams, or about 6-7 teaspoons."
She also pointed out that "one piece of candy contains 4-6 grams of sugar. This means that children under eight years old can consume one piece of candy per day, and this amount can later be increased to 2-3 pieces per day. However, it is important to note that the sugar content in candy varies from one type to another. Therefore, it is advisable to check the specifications of the sweets before giving them to children."
