The Israeli army announced today, Wednesday, that a senior officer with the rank of Major from the elite Shaldag unit was killed in the battles in Gaza. The army pointed out that Officer Itzhar Hoffman was killed while participating in the raid on Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. Israeli radio reported that Hoffman "is considered a significant loss, being one of the top planners in the war on Gaza, having developed methods for fighting in the tunnels." The army acknowledged the death of a second officer of the same rank from the same unit. In a statement this evening, it said that "two officers and two soldiers were killed in the fighting over the past 24 hours, in addition to 10 others injured."
