Lebanon: Call for Reimbursement to Citizens After Illegal Fines Imposed

The General Directorate of Personal Status announced in a statement that "a number of civil registry offices, particularly those belonging to the Mount Lebanon registry department, have been issuing receipts for the collection of a financial fine of 1,500,000 L.L. for the failure to report a death, contrary to legal procedures in light of the absence of any legal text modifying the fine set by Law 665, which amounts to 100,000 L.L. This General Directorate has directed all civil registry offices to comply with applicable laws and collect a fine of 100,000 L.L. for the delay in reporting a death. It has also requested those concerned who have previously paid an illegal fine to visit the relevant offices to recover those differences."
