Sassuolo, competing in Italy's Serie A, announced today that Italian international winger Domenico Berardi will undergo surgery after sustaining a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon in his right leg, which may keep him out for the rest of the season and the 2024 European Championship. The player was injured in Sassuolo's 1-0 loss to Hellas Verona on Sunday after returning from a knee meniscus surgery that had sidelined him for the previous six matches. Sassuolo stated in a press release: "Medical examinations conducted on Berardi revealed a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon in his right leg," adding that he will have surgery on Tuesday. Berardi has scored eight goals in 28 matches for the Italian national team and came on as a substitute in the final of the 2020 European Championship against England, where he scored the first penalty in his country's title win.
