The Jordanian army announced today, Wednesday, that it thwarted an attempt to smuggle large quantities of drugs coming from Syrian territory. A military source in the Jordanian Armed Forces stated that "border guard forces, in coordination with military security agencies and the anti-drug administration, detected an attempt by a group of smugglers to illegally cross the border from Syrian territory to Jordanian territory."
The source added that "quick reaction patrols were deployed and rules of engagement were applied with direct fire on them, which led to injuries among some of them, forcing their retreat along with others into the depths of Syria." The source mentioned that after intensifying search and inspection operations in the area, large quantities of drugs were discovered and handed over to the relevant authorities.
