Britain Imposes Sanctions on Officials in Penal Colony

Britain imposed sanctions today, Wednesday, on six officials in the penal colony in the Arctic, where Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny died last week. British Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated in a statement that "the individuals subject to sanctions, which include the head of the penal colony and five of his deputies, will be banned from entering Britain and their assets will be frozen." He added, "It is clear that the Russian authorities saw Navalny as a threat and repeatedly tried to silence him." He further stated: "Those responsible for the brutal treatment inflicted on Navalny... will be held accountable."
