UN Human Rights Commissioner Calls for International Inquiry into Beirut Port Blast

UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Turk has called for an international investigation into the Beirut port explosion, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP). Volker Turk stated before the UN Human Rights Council that "three years after the Beirut port explosion, there has been no accountability." He noted that "it might be time to consider sending an international fact-finding mission to look into the related human rights violations of this tragedy."

Member of the "Strong Republic" bloc, MP George Okais, wrote on "X": "The information coming from the 54th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, which opened this morning, is very encouraging. The High Commissioner Volker Turk is calling for the formation of an international fact-finding committee regarding the port explosion crime. The families of the victims will win the battle for truth and justice, God willing."
