Sale of First-Generation iPod for $29,000

A first-generation "iPod" was sold for $29,000 on the investment platform "Rally" for collectibles. The information indicates that the device belonged to a young man from Texas, who received it as a Christmas gift in 2001 but never used it, instead placing it in his closet. The device, which had an original price of $399 and is still in its sealed original packaging, was sold through a limited liability company created by "Rally" in December 2021. The limited liability company, which owned the device as a unique asset, was listed on the "Rally" platform, where 5,000 shares were sold to 360 investors at $5 per share, according to Rob Petrozzo, co-founder of the platform. Nearly 80% of shareholders voted to allow the undisclosed buyer to take physical possession of the "iPod." Petrozzo stated, "Everyone who collects something, especially technology... has nostalgia and holds onto things, even when they deteriorate," explaining that "even with declining sales, Apple's innovations and dominance in devices have propelled it into the elite trillion-dollar companies club, fueling the appeal for Rally investors."
