Israeli police announced today, Friday, that "an Israeli soldier apparently mistook an Israeli civilian who opened fire on one of the Hamas militants at a bus station in Jerusalem for a third attacker and shot him fatally." The police statement indicated that "investigation results suggest that during the attack, one of the Israeli soldiers mistakenly identified the late Yuval "Doron Kasleman," who acted heroically to neutralize the terrorists, as a third terrorist."
The statement added that "this soldier also opened fire on him, resulting in serious injuries and his tragic death tonight." Surveillance footage obtained by Reuters shows a white car stopping near a crowded bus station. Two men then exited and pulled out their guns to attack the crowd as people fled. Shortly after, the Palestinian attackers were shot.
A video circulated on social media shows Israeli army personnel shooting an Israeli settler, whom they thought was Palestinian. Israeli army radio noted that an Israeli lawyer named Yuval Doron Kasleman, aged 38, was killed by Israeli army fire in Jerusalem. The video shows Kasleman with his hands raised on a public street before being shot and killed.
Israeli sources indicated that Kasleman "neutralized a Palestinian attacker" in Jerusalem before he was killed. The video has drawn widespread criticism of the Israeli army.
