The Egyptian Cabinet's Media Center denied rumors circulating on some websites and social media about the "emergence of new strains of tuberculosis in Egypt." The Center stated: "There is no truth to the reports concerning the emergence of new strains of tuberculosis in Egypt," confirming that "no mutations or new strains of tuberculosis have been detected or recorded in any governorate across the republic."
It emphasized that "Egypt has a surveillance and epidemic investigation program that functions effectively in the early detection and monitoring of any infectious diseases that may enter the country." It noted that "in the event of any contagious disease or new virus strain, cases are identified, and treatment plans are implemented, with suspected cases referred to specialized units for examination and all early diagnosis and treatment measures taken upon confirmation of the disease." Additionally, it highlighted the implementation of all precautionary measures at Egyptian airports and ports to prevent the spread of any disease from travelers coming from areas with outbreaks.
Tuberculosis, known as "TB," is an infectious disease contracted through infection with a bacterium called Mycobacterium.
