Member of the "Democratic Gathering" bloc, MP Marwan Hamada, believes that "the probability of extending the truce in Gaza is the desire of the whole world, especially the Palestinians and Lebanese, for various reasons including avoiding slipping into war. However, Israeli intentions are unclear as the Israeli army has not achieved any victory and has not been able to deliver a decisive blow to Hamas as Netanyahu had promised." Hamada pointed out in an interview with "Voice of Lebanon" that "the greatest danger is the expansion of the war, not its continuation in Gaza or the extension of the truce," expressing concern "that the ceasefire may not last long."
Regarding the visit of French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, Hamada indicated that "the primary concern of the French envoy is to convince the Lebanese not to slip into war. However, as President Berri told all envoys, 'Go talk to the Israelis; we are in a state of self-defense and have not actually joined the war in Gaza.'" He added: "Le Drian's visit has three objectives: to understand Lebanon's position on war and peace, the stance on the military leadership, and whether discussions have matured among some forces internally to restart the process of electing a president." Hamada placed Le Drian's visit in a context filled with much inquiry leading to the offering of advice.
