Norway to Transfer Tax Funds to the Palestinian Authority from Israel

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it "has agreed to help transfer the frozen tax funds allocated to the Palestinian Authority, which were collected by Israel, providing vital funding for the Palestinian Authority." The statement indicated that "the temporary program will play a crucial role in preventing the financial collapse of the Palestinian Authority." According to the interim peace agreements reached in the 1990s, the Israeli Ministry of Finance is responsible for collecting taxes on behalf of the Palestinians and making monthly transfers to the Palestinian Authority. Under the agreed solution with Israel and Palestinian officials, Norway is acting as a mediator to preserve the revenues that Israel has withheld since October 7. These revenues are essential for the survival of the Palestinian Authority, which has limited self-governance in the occupied West Bank.
