Title: Patriarch Raï Advocates for Implementation of Taif Agreement in Spirit and Text

Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Raï, during the launch of the “Identity and Sovereignty” meeting, pointed out that “belonging to Lebanon is through citizenship, not through religion.” He noted that “if we review the constitution, religion has no role in governance, as Lebanon is pluralistic within the unity of the nation.” He added, “Lebanon is pluralistic, and this is where its beauty lies; neutrality is an essential part of Lebanese identity.” Regarding the Taif Agreement, Raï called for its implementation in both text and spirit in order to enable a better way of living.
