The Vatican stated today, Saturday, that "Pope Francis, who is suffering from pneumonia, is improving but will deliver the Sunday sermon from inside his residence as a precaution." A statement mentioned that "the 86-year-old pope does not have a fever and continues to receive antibiotic treatment." Typically, the pope delivers messages from the window of the Apostolic Palace overlooking St. Peter's Square. The statement indicated that he will read it indoors "to avoid exposing himself to temperature changes." The pope had to cancel a trip to Dubai to speak at the United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP28). The talk was read on his behalf by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the second-ranking official in the Vatican.
