Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé confirmed that he has "no issue" with his Spanish coach Luis Enrique, despite admitting there are problems within the team. This statement came after he scored twice to lead his team to a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad, securing a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Wearing the captain's armband, Mbappé opened the scoring after 15 minutes in San Sebastián and added a second goal in the second half. The match ended 2-1, allowing PSG to advance to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2021, winning 4-1 on aggregate.
Mbappé told a Canal Plus reporter: "Everything is fine. There is no problem with him, even if people think there is. I have many problems, but the coach is not one of them."
The 25-year-old began on the bench against Nantes on February 17 (2-0), was substituted an hour into the game against Rennes (1-1) last week, and was taken off at halftime on Friday in Monaco, where the French star began his career.
This series of bench appearances followed Mbappé informing the club's officials of his intention to leave this summer after spending seven years at the Parc des Princes.
Agence France-Presse reported Mbappé saying: "We are very happy to reach the quarter-finals. I don’t have any specific message. I always want to play in the Champions League. It's a very important competition. I always try to perform well. Sometimes it goes well and sometimes it doesn’t, but I will never be a player who disappears."
After the match, Enrique stated: "We are satisfied and happy. We played very well and prevented Real Sociedad from coming back into the match." Regarding Mbappé, the Spanish coach added: "There is no need to manage Mbappé. He manages himself."
