UN Envoy: Warring Parties in Yemen Commit to Steps for Ceasefire

The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stated today, Saturday, that "the warring parties in the long-standing conflict in the country have reached a commitment to steps for a ceasefire that would end the fighting." Grundberg welcomed "the parties' commitment to a set of measures that include implementing a nationwide ceasefire, improving living conditions in Yemen, and preparing to resume an inclusive political process under UN sponsorship." He announced that he would now work with both parties to establish a roadmap under UN auspices that includes these commitments and supports their implementation. Grundberg clarified that "the roadmap… will include, among other elements, the commitments of both sides to implement a nationwide ceasefire, pay all public sector salaries, resume oil exports, open roads in Taiz and other parts of Yemen, and continue to ease restrictions on Sana'a Airport and Hodeidah Port."
