Morocco: Traditional Circumcision Procedure Results in Child's Death

Moroccan media reported the death of a child who succumbed to severe bleeding after undergoing a traditional circumcision. He was transferred to the hospital but soon passed away. The Moroccan website "Hespress" stated that the deceased child, originating from the Turaal community in the Wazzan region of northwestern Morocco, breathed his last before arriving at the Abu Qasim Al-Zahraoui Regional Hospital in Wazzan, suffering from severe hemorrhaging caused by the "traditional circumcision procedure."

The report also noted that a second child was transported to Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat, suffering from serious injuries due to another traditional circumcision. In response to the incident, the relevant public prosecutor has ordered preliminary investigations to determine responsibilities and impose penalties. Additionally, "Hespress" revealed that the Abu Qasim Al-Zahraoui health center in the mentioned area lacks pediatric surgery specialization, which places the circumcision of children from rural communities in the hands of local individuals who do not adhere to health standards, turning the lives of many families into a nightmare, according to the Moroccan site.
