The "handing over and taking over" ceremony was held at the command of the Italian battalion at its headquarters in Al-Mansouri, in the Tyre District, involving the departing Grenadiers of Sardinia regiment and the incoming Third Alpine Regiment of Pinerolo, in the presence of local military and civilian dignitaries.
The ceremony's sponsor, Brigadier General Enrico Fontana, commander of the Joint Task Force - Western Sector of UNIFIL, thanked the outgoing Colonel Domenico Bisapia for the work accomplished, stressing the "professionalism and commitment demonstrated by the Italian peacekeeping forces during this difficult period for the entire Middle East, and their continued execution of operational and humanitarian activities as stipulated in Security Council Resolution 1701."
Starting today, the task force "ITALBTT," under the command of Colonel Alberto Salvador, which consists of the Third Alpine Regiment, joins the other four multinational task forces: Ghanaian, Malaysian, Korean, and integrated Irish with Polish assets, which complete the operational component of the Joint Task Force - Western Sector.
