Israeli Cabinet Discusses Hamas’s Response to Exchange Deal

Media reports indicate that the Israeli cabinet convened at the Ministry of Defense to discuss Hamas’s response to the exchange deal. The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) proposed to intermediaries a ceasefire plan in Gaza that involves releasing Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners, 100 of whom are serving life sentences, according to the proposal reviewed by Reuters.

Hamas stated that the first phase of the proposal includes "the release of women, children, the elderly, and the sick Israelis in exchange for a number of 700 to 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 100 serving life sentences and those with high sentences," with the proposal also covering the release of "female soldiers."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office deemed Hamas's new position as based on "unrealistic demands."
