Despite currently being a player for Barcelona, the Spanish star Ferran Torres admitted that the all-time top scorer of rivals Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo, is his role model in football. Torres, who progressed through the youth ranks at Valencia before moving to Manchester City and then to his current team Barcelona, stated in comments highlighted by the Spanish newspaper "Marca": "I believe that Leo (Barcelona legend, Argentine Lionel Messi) is the best in history. What he has done, I have not seen anyone do."
He added: "I did not see Maradona or Pelé play, and even Ronaldinho, I was very young when he was at his best." The Spanish international continued: "For Messi to stay at the top for 15-20 years, scoring 50 goals and providing 50 assists every year, I consider it something crazy."
He explained: "But you also have to know that Cristiano is an example for me. He is my role model because he competed with the best player in history, and that gives him a great advantage. Competing with Messi and succeeding in taking awards like the Ballon d'Or from him."
Although Ferran Torres is still a young player at 23 years old, he has had a remarkable career, having previously won several titles with his former team Manchester City, as well as winning the Spanish league with Barcelona last season. Torres has also been called up to participate with the Spanish national team in the 2020 European Championship and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored 18 international goals.
