The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced today, Wednesday, that the organization is currently tracking several strains of the coronavirus, including the strain (E.G.5) that is spreading in the United States and Britain. Tedros added, "There are still risks of a more dangerous strain emerging that could lead to a sudden increase in the number of infections and deaths," noting that the organization will release a report later today assessing the risks of the new strain. The organization also issued a set of ongoing recommendations related to COVID-19, urging countries to continue recording data on the disease, especially the number of related deaths and its spread, and recommended to continue the vaccination efforts.
