On Thursday evening, a motorcycle driver shot the Beirut Municipal policeman, Hasan Al-Asimi, in the neck while he was performing his duties in the Gemmayzeh area, causing his immediate death. According to the latest circulated information, the Information Division managed to arrest a person named M. N., of Syrian nationality, in the Sfara area, with no additional details provided.

Deputy Ghassan Hasbani expressed his condolences to the family and colleagues of Sergeant Hasan Al-Asimi during a press conference held at the office of Beirut Governor, Judge Marwan Aboud, condemning the crime. Hasbani stated, "We had warned about the dangers of the existing chaos, especially from residents and illegal movers in the area and crowded tourist places." He reiterated his appeal to security forces and security agencies to intensify law enforcement and take their role in the heart of the capital seriously, in addition to supporting the municipal police.
He emphasized that "the security of Beirut and the Ashrafieh area, in particular, is a red line," and said, "We must all protect it from illegitimate individuals, especially those who carry weapons."
