The ethnic Armenian leadership of the separatist Nagorno-Karabakh region stated today, Monday, that "everyone wishing to leave for Armenia, after the military operation conducted by Azerbaijan last week, will have the opportunity.” The authorities announced that they would “provide fuel for free to those who wish to leave.”
Reuters reported that "Armenians in the capital of the Nagorno-Karabakh region are loading their belongings onto buses and trucks to depart for Armenia." It added, "Dozens of people, many of whom have children and belongings, lined up to board the buses."
Footage posted by Russia's peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh indicated that they are evacuating residents of Martuni, Askeran, and Martakert to the capital, Stepanakert, today.
The Armenian government stated that "at least 4,850 people left the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan for Armenia by 08:00 GMT today," up from around three thousand people who departed seven hours earlier.
Azerbaijan announced on Tuesday the launch of “anti-terror operations” targeting Armenian forces in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, following the deaths of 6 Azerbaijani citizens in separate mine explosions. It also indicated that it had taken control of over 60 sites belonging to the Armenian army.
