AUKUS Countries to Begin Using Artificial Intelligence Algorithms

The AUKUS partnership countries (Australia, Britain, and the United States) have stated that they will use artificial intelligence algorithms to process large amounts of data. In a statement, they noted that "AUKUS program partners... will deploy advanced joint AI algorithms across multiple systems to process data from each country's sonar buoys. These joint achievements will allow for timely analysis of large volumes of data and enhance anti-submarine warfare capabilities."

According to the statement, AUKUS partner countries are working on developing AI algorithms "to improve the effectiveness of troop protection, precisely guide weapons to targets, and enhance reconnaissance and surveillance." Additionally, "AUKUS countries intend to integrate stable and autonomous AI technologies into national programs by 2024 to ensure the rapid adoption of these technologies on land and at sea."

In September 2021, Australia entered into a partnership with the United States and Britain through AUKUS, which specifically includes the use of American and British technology to create an Australian fleet of nuclear submarines over the next twenty years.
