Bayern Munich, the German Football League champion, announced on Saturday the signing of England national team captain Harry Kane on a four-year contract from Tottenham Hotspur. According to a statement, the 30-year-old player signed a deal that extends until 2027 after lengthy negotiations between the two clubs, and he will wear the number 9 jersey. The club did not disclose the value of the deal, which media reports estimated at around 100 million euros (109 million dollars). This makes it a record deal in the German league, surpassing Bayern's own signing of Lucas Hernández from Atlético Madrid in 2019 for 80 million euros.
Kane joined Tottenham's academy at the age of 11 before making his first-team debut in 2011. He spent most of his career at the London club but played on loan at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City, and Leicester City. Kane stated on the club's website, "I am happy to be here. I believe Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to continue to improve and push myself to be the best." He added, "I felt it was the right step in my career. Bayern has a winning culture year after year." With this signing, Bayern finally secures a replacement striker for Polish forward Robert Lewandowski, who moved to Barcelona in 2022.
