The Mercedes team, competing in the Formula 1 World Championship, hoped to make updates to their car at the Italian Grand Prix. However, the race scheduled for Sunday was canceled, meaning Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will have to wait until the Monaco Grand Prix at the end of the month. A spokesperson for Mercedes confirmed on Thursday that "the team will implement the updates on the car before the race held in the tight and winding streets of the principality."
Hamilton was looking forward to the Italian Grand Prix. After the Miami Grand Prix, the British driver commented on the updates: "I'm definitely counting the days until the race. I truly hope they help us take a step forward."
The team, which once dominated the competition, decided to reconsider the design of the 2023 car after finishing as the fourth fastest team at the Bahrain Grand Prix at the start of the season. After five races, Mercedes currently stands in third place in the overall standings, 128 points behind the leading Red Bull team.
