European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned that the situation in the Gaza Strip has reached a point of no return, emphasizing the need to use all possible means to reach those in need. Von der Leyen affirmed that "the maritime corridor to Gaza will enable aid to be delivered to northern Gaza," considering that "the departure of the first aid ship to Gaza from Cyprus is a glimmer of hope." She stressed that "we will work hard to send many ships, and the European Union will have a coordination team in Cyprus, which will fund and direct the flow of goods to Gaza," asserting that "children in Gaza are facing famine and dying from starvation. This unacceptable situation must be stopped." She added, "The citizens of Gaza need an immediate truce that can lead to a sustainable ceasefire." Last Saturday, the European Commission, along with the UAE, the United States, and Cyprus, issued a joint statement regarding the activation of a maritime corridor for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.
