U.S. Attorney Jean Peters Baker reported that a baby died after her mother accidentally placed her to sleep in the oven. He stated, "We are horrified by the nature of this tragedy, and our hearts are heavy with the loss of this precious life. We trust that the criminal justice system will respond appropriately to these horrific circumstances." Maria Thomas from Kansas City, Missouri, has been charged with endangering her child's safety. The report added that police responded on Friday afternoon to a call about an infant not breathing and showing obvious signs of burns, before her death was announced. Authorities mentioned that a witness told paramedics that the mother placed the infant down for a nap and mistakenly put her in the oven instead of her crib.
