The New York Times reported that an audit by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) into the production process of Boeing 737 Max aircraft revealed failures in 33 out of 89 tests. The audit was conducted following an incident in which a part of the aircraft's body detached during flight from Alaska Airlines. The report, released Monday, cited a presentation by the FAA that the extensive investigation showed Boeing failed a test related to the component that caused the detachment, known as the door plug.
Additionally, the supplier Spirit AeroSystems, which manufactures the Max fuselage, passed 6 out of 13 audits but failed the others. The audit of Spirit that focused on the door plug component identified five issues, with the company failing the one related to the component's installation, according to the report. In a statement sent via email to Reuters, Boeing said that following the FAA audit, the company is implementing immediate changes and developing a plan to enhance safety and quality.
