Israeli media has revealed that Israeli demonstrators are attempting to breach the border fence with Egypt. Israeli journalist Ben Caspit, writing for Maariv, tweeted today about a surprising incident involving the unusual behavior of protesters at the Kerem Shalom crossing—where they are trying to penetrate the border fence and climb over it.
In the beginning of his tweet, Caspit noted that the story came from a high-ranking reserve officer in the Israeli army. After verifying the accuracy of the story and stating that "everything is precise," Caspit disclosed that officials present at the demonstration said that Israeli police refuse to implement a closure order issued by the military.
At the same time, Caspit revealed that according to statements from others present at the event, soldiers on the ground are having to physically restrain the protesters.
The Israeli news site ice reported that the concerning aspect pertains to the unruly behavior of the demonstrators: "Last night was filled with clashes, some verging on violence. Protesters are trying to storm the border fence with Egypt and climb it, and the soldiers are at a loss."
