An explosion rocked a factory in the city of Sète in the Hérault department of southern France on Wednesday evening. French media reported that the explosion was followed by a fire at the factory, noting that one worker was injured and is in critical condition. BFMTV stated that the injured worker was airlifted to Montpellier University Hospital.

The Hérault department announced in a press statement that "an explosion followed by a fire occurred at the Saipol company in the port of Sète on Wednesday, April 10 at 5 PM." A second press statement released around 7:30 PM mentioned that the fire is "under control."

Authorities confirmed that the smoke column extending towards the sea does not pose a danger to residents. The Saipol factory specializes in processing rapeseed and sunflower seeds into vegetable oils, plant proteins, and renewable energy. French media outlets shared videos documenting smoke plumes rising into the sky.
