On Monday, Sudanese Army Chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan dashed hopes for talks to end the months-long conflict in his country, denouncing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and labeling its members as "traitors," and pledging to achieve a decisive victory.
Al-Burhan delivered a speech to soldiers at the Flamingo base in Port Sudan on the Red Sea, stating, "We do not align with traitors; we do not align with any entity that has betrayed the Sudanese people." He emphasized that discussions about his departure from the capital Khartoum through a political agreement or deal, or with external assistance, are "just a delusion."
In his address on Monday during his visit to the Flamingo military base in Port Sudan, he reiterated, "We do not agree with traitors or any other entity that has betrayed the Sudanese people."
Regarding the circumstances of his exit from Khartoum, he insisted that it was carried out with military units and the army's security, without any agreements or deals. He said, "My exit was with the involvement of all army units; air, land, and sea forces, and it was an operation that witnessed fighting and was not an appeal to anyone."
He noted that two martyrs fell during his exit from the General Command headquarters, saying, "We fell into a trap. Our brothers in the naval forces, who were part of the operation, also lost two martyrs."
