The Central Criminal Investigation Department has detained former Syrian army officer Major General Adel Issa, under the directive of Public Prosecutor Judge Ahmed Rami Al-Haj. Issa previously held the position of Commander of the 17th Division in the Syrian Army during Bashar al-Assad's regime.
Issa's arrest follows an absentee arrest warrant issued by the Syrian judiciary, accusing him of committing murder and crimes against humanity.
Judge Al-Haj informed the Syrian Public Prosecutor of Issa's detention and requested the judicial file for examination to decide on the possibility of his extradition.
