The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, emphasized the important role of the seventh Indian Ocean Conference hosted by Australia to discuss prospects for regional cooperation for security and growth for all in the region. This came during a meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong today, Friday, in Perth, Australia, on the sidelines of his participation in the conference. During the meeting, the discussion focused on Gulf-Australian relations and ways to enhance them to solidify joint economic and trade interests for both parties, as well as reviewing the latest developments in several regional and international issues, particularly concerning the crisis in Gaza and the importance of international efforts to address it to contribute to maintaining stability and security in the region and globally. The Secretary-General also expressed gratitude to the Australian government for organizing the seventh edition of the Indian Ocean Conference, which serves as an important platform bringing together policymakers, diplomats, scholars, and experts from around the world, aimed at enhancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
